Quarterly Meeting Minutes

October 25th , 2012

I. Call to order

Doris Lafayette called to order the regular meeting of the WGNA at 7:01 p.m. on 10/25/12 at the North Texas Area Christian Church. The Pledge of Allegiance and the Lord’s Prayer were recited.

II. Roll call

Doris Lafayette conducted a roll call and all members and attendees introduced themselves. The following persons were present: All officers except Ken Agee, Lori Dodson, District 6 Council Member.

III. Approval of minutes from last meeting

Minutes for the last quarterly meeting were published on the WGNA website and motion was made for them to be approved and seconded by David Morehead. Treasurer Dianna Diaz reported the treasury balance was at $475.81.

IV. Old Business

The Good Neighbor program is still being looked into / Dairy Queen has made no progress and seems to remain in limbo / There has been no further resolution to the homeless situation / Blue recycle bins are still in the transition phase, which is a 5-year phase / Discussed getting volunteers for the Keep Garland Beautiful project for April 2013; we would need at least 12 / The 2012 Health Expo held at the Curtis Culwell Event Center reported to have collected around 700 lbs of expired prescription drugs for disposal. Old prescriptions can also be turned in to the front desk of the police department.

V. Open Issues/New Business

·        Lori Dodson informed that we have one new NPO (Neighborhood Police Office) in our district to aid in additional patrol and prevention of drug and gang activity.

·        The Forest/Jupiter Dart Station area is in the pre-planning phase of a mix-use (Retail/Office/Residential) development. Renderings of preliminary ideas were passed around for review.

·        Talks of increased graffiti and the fact the violators have not been caught; statistics have not shown any increase in gang activity. Clean-up efforts were discussed.

·        What is a Neighborhood Association? The importance of educating members of our association of our purpose and duties.

·        Officer Elections are in January and nominations are open.
