WGNA Sponsors 2013 Texas
Neighborhood Night Out Event
Texas chose Tuesday October 1st as the date for this year’s
National Night Out.
The West Garland Neighborhood Association (WGNA) is
sponsoring an event held
this year at the Lottie Watson Park (1100 N Yale, between
Bucknell & Lawler).
We will start setting up at 5 p.m., and should be in full-swing by 6 p.m.
The event continues until sunset
(about 7:30 p.m.)
We are currently in the planning phase, with weekly meetings
being held at the Richardson (Plano
Rd just south of Beltline) Target Store’s food
court. Meetings typically last less than
an hour, starting every Tuesday evening at 6pm. We need more volunteers, so if you would like to help in any way (even
if it’s just to sit at a table and tells stories to the kids!), please stop by and
talk to us!
There is no fee for entry, but we ask that attendees please
consider bringing cans of food to donate to the local food bank. We will have
door prizes ranging from Gift Cards, to hardware items, to homebaked pies. No money is required – just a completed
name-card for the drawings.
There will be plenty of hotdogs with a full range of
fixings, chips, water, lemonade, and probably even some cookies!
At this point, we plan on involving the Garland Police
(Neighborhood Patrol Officers), the Fire Department, Office of Emergency
Management, Animal Services, Garland Pawsibilties, Boy Scout Troop 884, and
hopefully some Churches and other outreach organizations such as The Good
Samaritans.

09/13/13 update: We’re
getting closer to October 1st!
We have WGNA members committed to being at Watson
Park (southeast of Yale &
Lawler) by 4:30pm, and BSA Troop#884
should be assembled there by 5:30PM
to help set up tables and bring out the good stuff. We are getting donations from Sam’s Club,
Lowes, and many smaller businesses here in west Garland. If your organization would like to
contribute, please contacts us here in the next few days.
09/18/13 update: Tick tick tick… time is counting down! We’ve just about finalized the details, and
now need to start publicizing the event.
Since the WGNA has no dues (only donations), we can’t pay for big flashy
advertisements. We do currently have one
free ad running on the Dallas Morning News system (includes NeighborsGo &
Al Dia)… CLICK

more volunteers to pass them out (to
friends, family, and door-to-door here in west Garland).
