Garland will
be hosting another Healthy Living Expo this year, at the Curtis Culwell Center (4999 Naaman
Forest Blvd, behind Wal-Mart). It starts
at 9 a.m on September 19th and continues
until at least 1 p.m.
Parking is
free, and there will be lots of free hand-outs available from the various
booths (which offer short presentations on various topics). They also have free health screenings for
things like cholesterol, blood sugar, vision, and even bone density.
They also
give us a chance to unload the following items:
Ø Used medical equipment like
wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, bath chairs, etc. (outdoor collection run by
Comfort Keepers)
Ø Old bicycles (outdoor collection run
by Spokes for Folks)
Ø Eye glasses (indoor collection run by
the local Lions Club)
Ø Shoes (indoor collection run by The ShoeBank)
Ø Misc household items (collected outdoors
by Goodwill Industries)
Ø Paper documents (up to 4 boxes per
vehicle, outdoors, run by Alliance Document Shredding)
Ø Unwanted medications (collected
indoors by the Garland Police Dept)
Ø Junk electronic devices (collected
outdoors)
Ø Plastic bags, drop cloths,
stretch-wrap, etc (collected indoors)
Warning: The Cullwell Center
building has a security policy that limits what you can carry inside. Only clear and small “clutch bags” are
allowed inside.
