Minutes from the meeting in January 2020 were read and approved. Due to the pandemic, quarterly meetings were suspended until April 2021.

Robert Vera reported the funds in our account totaled $2,193.11.

Our NPO, Officer D.L. Wade, told us there were no major crimes in the West Garland area. There is also a Video Crime Watch Program that allows residents to voluntarily add their video systems to a secure, interactive map that can be used by officers and investigators to quickly canvass an area for possible video evidence.

Kudos to the Garland City Marshals for keeping up on the parking issues. Irene reported that she used EAssist to report an abandoned vehicle that ended being a stolen vehicle.

Current mayor Scott LeMay attended our meeting to answer questions regarding his attempt at reelection at the election on May. You can go to www.dallascountyvotes.org to find out where to vote and what the early voting times are.

Other questions involved wanting to know the direction he sees the city going in the future. He mentioned redevelopment of existing properties. Also, the water tower at Lottie Watson Park is being repainted. Ocean Star Metals has shut down.

He also related information regarding the 2019 bond election. Ground breaking has been accomplished for the new animal shelter. Also, the new police evidence building will be built on Forest Lane. The dog park is also part of the bond election and is well on its way to completion.

David brought up the issue of wanting citizens to get involved with city planning, including more activity on the local level, especially our neighborhood association group. There are many opportunities available to us to serve.

The meeting was closed after a motion to adjourn was requested; it was seconded and passed unanimously.

The next meeting will be held July 22, 2021 at Hollabaugh. Be sure to invite any of your neighbors to attend this meeting.
