Two Elections in May 2022                  5/22 K.Agee

There will be two elections this May.  The first election is May 7th, and is considered a “Constitutional Amendment and Joint Election” because it features two proposed amendments to the Texas state constitution, as well as a few local elections.

Both state propositions deal with breaks on property tax appraisals.

Ř Prop #1 lets most homeowners over 65 years old and those who are disable get additional reductions on their property taxes.

Ř Prop #2 increases the amount homeowners can subtract from the value of their home (from $25,000 to the proposed value of $40,000) before school taxes are computed.  This change would apply to homeowners of all ages.

The City of Garland has two City Council seats up for election, but our District 6 is not one of them.  There are however three GISD Board of Trustee seats and one Dallas Community College seat up for election.

The second election will be held on Tuesday May 24th, with early voting available from May 16th thru May 20th.  It is called the “2022 Primary Runoff Election” because it is exclusively for runoffs resulting from the March 1st Democrat & Republican primary elections.
