Joint Primary Elections on Saturday March 1st 2022, Early Voting Starts Sooner                    1/22 K.Agee

There will be a statewide joint election for both Democrat and Republican parties on March 1st, with early voting between Monday February 14th and Friday 2/25).

Thanks to 2019 rule changes, registered voters in Dallas County can vote at any precinct within the county.  Since these are only “primaries”, there will be separate ballots for Democrats and Republicans, and voters must choose one ballot or the other they can’t vote in both elections.  Primaries reduce the number of candidates down from a large field to only one from each party for the main election this November 7th.  The parties have certain requirements for a single winner to be declared within their party, and sometimes “runoffs” are required to reach that threshold.  Runoffs for both parties are scheduled for Saturday May 7th.

As mentioned above, the official Election Day for the primaries is Tuesday March 1st, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. at any voting precinct in Dallas County.

Early voting can be accomplished per the following schedule:

Ø Feb 14th thru Feb 18th (Mon-Fri) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Ø Feb 19th (Saturday) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Ø Feb 29th (Sunday) from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Ø Feb 21st (Monday), no voting on President’s Day

Ø Feb 22nd thru Feb 25th (Tue-Fri) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Primary elections will be for Governor, Lt. Governor, State Senator, State Representative, Attorney General, Comptroller, Commissioners for Agriculture, Railroad, and Land, Board of Education, and several Judges and Constables.  Depending on Republican or Democratic ballots, there may also be some Propositions and local office positions.
