Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Officers in attendance:

Linda Deskin – Vice President

Irene Ryan – Secretary

Ken Agee – Sergeant-at-Arms

Robert Vera – Treasurer

Officers absent:

David Morehead – President

Sam Madden - Parliamentarian

Minutes from the meeting in October were read and approved.

Treasurer’s report: $2,500 in the bank

Our NPO, Officer Diaz, was in attendance. We also had our other NPO, Officer Martinez, speak with us. There has been an uptick in vehicle thefts, primarily newer pickups and Chevy Tahoes.

We had a visit from Carissa Dutton who is helping with the homeless community. She is also running for the District 6 city council position. Doug Williams will also be running for the position vacated by Robert Vera

Another visitor was Deborah Morris, council member for District 2. She spoke about the renovations of the Downtown area and encouraged us to visit.

Andy Hesser from the Parks and Recreation Department gave us an update on projects around the city. There is a delay in renovations to Hollabaugh Rec Center due to ongoing drainage problems. The design for the new Walnut Creek library is 60% completed. For Lottie Watson Park the city received $1,750K from Texas Parks and Wildlife, so the city didn’t have to come up with any money. There will be a meeting at Granger Recreation Center on February 3 to discuss the new Senior Center. All residents are encouraged to attend.

Our new City Manager, Judson Rex, came and spoke about his new position. He sees our city to be on the cusp of great growth. As city manager, he is over the Police and Fire Departments. One of our members said quite a few good things about Garland Police. It was very encouraging. The police department conducts its own training and quite often has officers from other departments attend these trainings. Included is training of School Resource Officers on what to do in a school shooting scenario.

There were several new members at the meeting, including Erick and Daisy Hernandez, who own E&D Premier Roofing. It’s always encouraging to welcome newbies.

Ken Agee, our Sergeant at Arms, mentioned amending the bylaws at the next meeting to be held on April 27 at 7pm. A motion was made, seconded and voted on.

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made, seconded and passed unanimously.
