West Garland Neighborhood Association
Minutes of the Quarterly Meeting
January 23, 2025
Hollabaugh Recreation Center
The meeting was called to order at 7 pm.
Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
There was an introduction of the officers.
Officers in attendance:
David Morehead – President
Linda Deskin – Vice President
Irene Ryan – Secretary
Robert Vera – Treasurer
Ken Agee – Sergeant-at-Arms
Minutes from the October meeting were read and approved.
Treasurer’s Report: $3,025.00 in the bank.
David Morehead asked for anyone wishing to be part of the Board to speak up. We have openings for Parliamentarian and Advisor. There were no volunteers. A motion was made to accept the current Board members. This was accepted, seconded and voted unanimously.
NPOs Diaz and Murphy were in attendance. There was a porch pirate who was picked up, thanks to the diligence of neighbors who reported it to the police. Be careful when getting cash from the bank or ATM. Thieves are watching for distracted people and robbing them.
Rhonda McTyre gave an update on all things Hollabaugh. One thing was an ASL class that will be available in September. If you’re interested in an annual pass to use the facilities, contact the center. Construction of the new library is going well. It’s possible it could open as early as April 2025, but most definitely by June.
Tony Irvin from the Streets Department gave a good presentation on what the department does and how they are addressing the issues of streets that are in need of repair. A great majority of them are well over 30 years old. He handed out a map of District 6 and a list of projects involving streets and alleys.
Carissa Dutton, our Councilwoman, shared a PowerPoint presentation on what projects are coming up, costs, and approximate completion dates; many of them involve drainage problems.
There will be a Town Hall meeting with Carissa Dutton, on 3/6/25, at 6:30 pm here at Hollabaugh. Subjects to be discussed will include the proposed bond package, tax supported projects in District 6, drainage improvements and the all important new West Garland Library. Make plans to attend.
If anyone has questions, these can be addressed after the meeting.
The meeting was adjourned after the motion, second and vote.
