Pledge of Allegiance was recited.
There was an introduction of the officers.
Officers in attendance:
David Morehead – President
Linda Deskin – Vice President
Irene Ryan – Secretary
Ken Agee – Sergeant-at-Arms
Officers not in attendance:
Robert Vera – Treasurer
Minutes from the July meeting were read and approved.
Treasurer’s Report: $2,930.44 in the bank.
David Morehead welcomed all attendees and asked anyone who would like to volunteer for positions on the board.
Our NPO, Officer Murphy, was in attendance and again brought up the subject of scams that are plaguing our citizens today. There are lottery scams, grandparent scams, etc. The basis for most of these scams is an immediate need and secrecy. AI is fast becoming a major part of these scams. Take the time and check out everything.
We heard from our mayor, Dylan Hedrick. He gave us updates on what is going on with Spring Creek Preserve. The sewer pipes haven’t been inspected since they were installed in 1977. The city has contracted out to a company to help mitigate the damage to the forest and volunteers have collected and planted native plants to replace what was damaged.
Regarding the proposed soccer complex to be built on the property at PGBT tollway and Holford, the site is being assessed for viability for hotels, eating venues and shopping to draw in tournaments and increase the tax database. This will not affect the Preserve. Plans are to widen Holford from the tollway to Naaman Forest only.
Mayor Hedrick will have the Meet the Mayor at Watson Park at 6pm on October 27.
Hooray, the grand opening of the West Garland Library will be at 10am on Saturday October 25! There will be plenty of activities for the whole family.
The meeting was adjourned after the motion, second and vote.
