Information about a scam-technique called Jugging 7/25 Ken Agee, with help from Copilot A.I. tool
What
Is “Jugging”?
Jugging is a fast-growing robbery tactic where criminals target people who
withdraw cash from banks or ATMs. The term originated in Texas and has spread
across the U.S. in recent years.
Here’s how it typically works:
Why
It’s Effective
Jugging relies on surprise and distraction. Victims often don’t realize they’re
being watched or followed, making it easy for thieves to strike when guards are
down.
How to Protect Yourself
· Go digital: Use mobile deposits, direct deposit, or payment apps like Zelle or PayPal to reduce the need for cash.
· Why It’s on the Rise: Law enforcement agencies across the country—from California to Florida—are reporting spikes in jugging incidents. Some cases have involved organized gangs, and victims have suffered both financial and physical harm.
Here’s a 17 minute video, featuring a case here in Garland that was cracked in part by assistance from the Garland Police Department. Please note, the video is sponsored by a security company called “Aura” which is not affiliated with the GPD or WGNA in any way.
