4th Quarter WGNA Meeting Summary                     10/26/17  K.Agee

Our 4th quarter WGNA meeting was held on 10/26/17 at our usual location (back of the Christian Church at 3525 Lawler) at the usual 7 p.m. start-time.

President Ricardo Rocha directed the meeting.  After a roll call of officers President Rocha let Officer Shreves (a Neighborhood Patrol Officer for our area) reported on various police activities:

Ø  The Gang Unit is back after a long hiatus, due to recent incidents within the City.  Officer Shreves is involved as are several other officers.  He suggests using his email address (shrevesr@garlandtx.gov) to contact him,  otherwise phone# 972-485-4876 is listed at the GPD website.

Ø  Several burglars have been caught in our area.  He attributes it to several factors, but of course this is good news for us residents.

Ø  The Citizens On Patrol program is being revamped, looking for new participants.  When their website (and online application function) is complete, we will post the address here at the WGNA website.

Ø  As usual, Officer Shreves encourages us to notify the Police of suspicious activities.  Either by calling 911 or the non-emergency number 972-485-4840.

WGNA did not participate in this fall’s National Night Out, but the Christian Church where we meet is still open to working with us in the future.  President Rocha is working this issue, and encourages others to let him know if they have ideas or can otherwise volunteer their time.  Best way to contact WGNA officers is thru our email address mail4wgna@gmail.com  or by calling our voicemail number at 972-379-7497.

There was a discussion about getting our WGNA organization registered with the IRS for 501(c)(3) compliance so we would have a better chance of collecting donations from corporations, etc.  Former Councilwoman Lori Dodson has offered to help with this effort.

President Rocha and Ken Agee plan to revive their effort to create & distribute “refrigerator magnets”  with information about the WGNA organization, to improve our visibility within the community.

President Rocha and David Morehead will take another look at ordering tee-shirts promoting the WGNA organization.  Previous research indicates that shirts will cost between $6 and $15 each.

President Rocha will look into a source for low-cost yard signs that can be set out by members just ahead of each quarterly meeting.  The goal is to keep the cost low enough that lost signs won’t be a serious financial burden as in the past (~$15/sign).
