Former Councilwoman Barbara Chick passes 4/26/23

Longtime local resident and representative to the City Barbara Chick passed away on April 26^th, 2023.  She was 83 at the time. 

Besides her career in banking, she put in a lot of effort representing District 6 for the City of Garland.  After serving on the Planning & Zoning Commission, she served as City Council Rep from 2005-2009.  While on the City Council, she was instrumental in getting the Harris Hollabaugh Rec Center going… not an easy feat. 

In 2005 & 2006, she was very helpful in getting what is now called the West Garland Neighborhood Association out of member’s homes and officially recognized by the City.

She always won her elections by landslides, partly because of her character… one that was truly a great example for later generations.
