Update on Dog Park & more 7/01/20 K.Agee
The COVID-19 virus continues to slow
down activities with the City of Garland, and the West Garland Neighborhood
alike. However, here are a few updates:
Ř The West Garland Neighborhood Association (“WGNA”) has
cancelled their normal 3rd quarter meeting on July 23rd. Therefore the next scheduled meeting will be
Thursday Oct 22nd at 7 pm (as usual, the meeting place will be in
the Hollabaugh Rec Center)
Ř The new public dog park will have its ribbon-cutting
ceremony at 10 a.m. on Thursday July 9th. The $1.3 million dollar park was originally
scheduled to open in the 1st quarter of 2020, but again the COVID-19
issues delayed it. (the
opening ceremony has been cancelled due to COVID-19, but the park will still
open on Thursday July 9th) updated 7/6/20 by
K.A.
The park
is located at Glenbrook Dr and 9th St,
which used to be the old Texas Air National Guard Armory. There will be three acres divided into three
fenced-in areas for dogs to run free. It
will also have a shaded seating area with water fountains, so the owners can be
comfortable while their pets get exercise (and “socialize”).
Ř On June 26th, the City of Garland announced
they will close the Windsurf Bay Park located on the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard
(Locust Grove Rd) for the weekend of July 4th. They said cited lack of resources to properly
patrol the area during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Ř The City of Garland is still sponsoring a program to
provide up to 100 free COVID-19 tests per day to residents of Garland. This link has additional information, forms,
and location info:

Ř So
far to date, there have been 342 positive COVID-19 tests in west Garland /
District 6, with one fatality. The City
of Garland has decided to keep dine-in restaurants limited to 25% capacity
instead of 50% allowed in some other locations.
